Workshop Synopsis:
Be empowered on evidenced-based practice in the art of coaching, programming and assessment of speed, agility and quickness (SAQ) for athletes.
Many sports require athletes to display quick bursts of speed, agility and quickness (SAQ) to dominate in a game scenario and this can be coached through sound movement mechanics. This workshop will review the technical components that are essential for optimal SAQ movement patterns through the lens of a coaching model to identify movement prioritization. With an emphasis on external cueing, coaches can look to take away practical applications to improve an athlete’s ability to enhance SAQ mechanics.

Workshop Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the workshop, coaches will be able to:
- Define terms and compute basic physics problems related to sprints and agility.
- Identify and explain the difference between traditional definitions of acceleration, maximal speed, agility and change of direction (COD).
- Identify and explain how specific kinematic and kinetic elements relate to the acceleration and maximal speed technical model.
- Identify and explain the component and sub-component speed qualities that make up change of direction.
- Recognize the “coaching pyramid” and identify the most effective cues for improving the acceleration, maximal speed and change of direction technical model.
- Identify and design effective movement skills programming for acceleration, maximal speed and change of direction.
